Click on the picture and then the "Detailed Description" tab for information about choosing which batteries to use for your fan. (This can also help you select the fan that is right for you.) I do not normally sell batteries because the weight makes the shipping too expensive. Therefore almost all of my customers can get their batteries cheaper by buying them at a store. I have no association with the companies listed on this page, except as a customer.
Important note: Beginning in 2009, several battery manufacturer started making their batteries slightly smaller than the standard size. Some of our fans did not work with the smaller batteries. Of course, we continued to honor our 30 day unconditional guarantee, and customers had the option of returning their fan if they wanted. In 2010 many of our fans have been re-designed, and all of our fans now work with all "D" Cell batteries.

Following are a few different options for batteries. Which you choose will depend on the amount you are willing to invest, and the amount of time you run your fan on battery power.
Cheapest
If you will typically run your fan using AC power, and only occasionally operate it using batteries, you will probably be best off buying regular alkaline batteries. However, if you frequently use battery power, regular alkaline batteries will be the most expensive option in the long run. Based on articles I have read, you are best off buying the cheapest alkaline batteries available. There is little difference in quality between the cheap and expensive alkaline batteries.
Better
If you typically won't use your fan more than 1-2 hours at a time, you might want to consider buying one of our Rechargeable Fans. These fans have a built-in rechargeable battery that typically last about 3 hours on low power. It can also run on regular batteries, so you can use them as a back-up when you need to. Some fans also include a car adaptor and an AC adaptor, which can be used to run the fans and charge them at the same time. Unfortunately, O2 Cool does not have any rechargeable models at this time, but there is a possibility that some will become available this summer.
Best
At our house, we use rechargeable NiMH batteries. These batteries have a long life and can be recharged up to 1,000 times. Best Buy sells the 'D' cell batteries for about $6.00 each - see Best Buy Batteries.
If you choose this option, you will also need a charger. Best Buy also sells these for about $34.00 - see Best Buy Charger.
This charger will recharge 4 batteries in about 8 hours, and it will also charge your "AA," "AAA," and "C" cell and "9V" rechargeable batteries.
Best of the Best
One last option: if you want the best battery charger, get the MAHA C808M (see photo on this page). This charger costs about $90 and can charge a set of 8 batteries in about an hour. It can also recondition batteries, so that batteries you thought were dead become usable again. We bought one from www.zbattery.com and are still very happy with it after about 5 years. You can find more information about this charger at Z Battery Charger. A Maha charger is also available at Amazon - Amazon Charger.
One other note: zbattery also has a 10,000 mAh rechargeable for $8.25 each. mAh is a measure of the amount of charge that a battery will hold. So a 10,000 mAh battery should last 4 times longer than the 2,500 mAh Energizer battery at Best Buy. See ZBattery Batteries.
